The Parent/Friend Factor

Ok. So this is always a tough one to get anyone to respond to because of it's sensitive nature, but this can be a good sounding board for us all.

Let us know what you think?

In being a parent now I am really beginning to see the insides of what parents have been thinking for the past 10 years of being in ministry. They love their kids and want their kids to be happy, but not at the expense of the kid growing up to be a loser. But as we see with teen-age life, either parents or friends will be the two things that mold the life of teenagers.

In YOUR OPINION, which of these factor in the most, in the way teen-agers grow up to be who they are? Is it parents? Or is it friends?

GO!

I think I have read that while peers are a large influence in the teen years that it has been proven that parents have the lasting influence on their children - a huge responsibility!

This is a difficult question. I would have to say that the parents have the most influence on a child. Even though coming from my own experience I have shaped my life from decisions I made from listening to my friends. Which by the way were bad ones! I think if we can teach our children to make good choices at an early age that will shape who they are as a youth.

I get nervous when I think about whether or not my child will be anything like I was in my teen years. Then I also get the peace that God delivered me from that and I had parents that were praying for me every step of the way.
